Parent Involvement

Home/Community/ Parent Involvement

Parents play a key role in the day-to-day functioning of our College. The quality of parent involvement is crucial to the learning experiences of the child. The College offers many opportunities for parents to contribute by adding value and experience to our evolving community. This may include assisting with reading, cleaning, and material making; becoming a parent chaperone; providing assistance at school events; and assisting with the care of our grounds and buildings.

The MIC Collective

A new parent support group is being established to foster a strong and vibrant community in which parents contribute their knowledge, skills, and time to enhance life at MIC for all families. The MIC Collective will begin their work in 2024. Click HERE for more information.

Parent Ambassadors

The Parent Ambassadors at MIC sit under the umbrella of the MIC Collective and provide an essential service to the school leadership and school community. They volunteer to support our school community and extend the ‘village’ which helps nurture the familial connection at MIC. This is a personal commitment these parents make to positively promote and represent the College.

The aim of Parent Ambassadors is to:

  • promote the interests and aims of Montessori education;
  • provide parents and friends with activities to build strong community ties;
  • represent the viewpoint of families with respect to the College’s aims and activities;
  • foster whole school understanding and communication; and
  • assist with resources and activities approved by the Principal and Board.

This role encompasses some of the following:

  • welcoming new families;
  • engaging with current and new parents;
  • engaging with parents and encouraging support for the school with involvement in school events and activities;
  • providing useful support for the newly arrived parents to the school;
  • organising family-friendly events (picnic dinners, class community play days, family directory);
  • providing classroom level support for parents;
  • welcoming new families;
  • informing parents about the school’s unique philosophy and programs (Montessori +); and
  • sharing parent feedback.

For more information please contact your child’s teacher.

Parent education

Parent education at MIC is designed to provide helpful information as well as support strategies to help parents navigate their role as a Montessori parent. The sessions are diverse and provide opportunities for parents to deepen their understanding and broaden their knowledge of their child’s learning experiences at MIC and beyond. Parent education at MIC is coordinated by Deputy Principal Rael Matthews.

All parent education sessions are booked via the Schoolzine platform.
